According to Google, the three most important factors that determine your ranking on Google Maps are relevance, distance, and prominence.

Relevance means that your business information closely matches what people are searching for. So, it’s essential to have accurate and detailed information on your Google Business Profile, including your location and the services you provide.

Distance plays a big role in your ranking too. This means the distance from where the searcher is to where your business is. I often hear businesspeople tell me they show up in the #1 spot. But they are searching for their business from their business. You can’t get any closer than that. What if they go a mile or two away and do the same search?

And Prominence is about how well-known your business is. It depends on things like your reputation, online presence, and reviews. I often refer to this as Popularity. If two businesses are very similar in what they do and distance, but one is more popular than the other, the popular one wins.
